Bruce Lee in Enter the Dragon

What is Jeet Kune Do?

Jeet Kune Do was conceived by Bruce Lee in response to his research in the shortcomings of classical martial arts. He wanted to develop an art that featured greater mobility, prioritized initiative, and less telegraphic movement.

Bruce took elements of Wing Chun (the “Mother Art” that he studied under Ip Man) and incorporated it with American Boxing as well as elements of Fencing. Thus, Jeet Kune Do was developed - The Way of the Intercepting Fist.

The principles of Jeet Kune Do:

Simplicity

Economy of Motion

Longest Weapon/Nearest Target

Characteristically, it is about non-telegraphic motion, freedom, and “always hit!”.

Jeet Kune Do covers all ranges of combat, footwork, striking, kicking, trapping, takedowns, and sensitivity training. The scientific aspects and principles at the fundamental core of Jeet Kune Do - The Essence, lead one to the "Open End" of true combat, where anything that works, goes.

Jeet Kune Do, as taught by Bruce, was NOT a "mixture of arts". It is about studying what works in a fight, building yourself up, and making it your own.
